Death Penalty

Lately there has been thought about extracting the death penalty from the criminal justice system. It has been thought that most Americans are for the death penalty. After reading this article though it presents the idea that maybe Americans aren't so pro death penalty at all. The biggest issue that is brought up about the death penalty is how to determine whether the person is guilty or not. If you aren't sure if the person is guilty then you shouldn't be sentencing the person to death. Unfortunately many people have been sentenced to death without actually being guilty. This reason in itself is why the death penalty should no longer be apart of the criminal justice system. Take for instance the situation that was already brought up in the article. The article reads, “Most notable this year were the multiple protests on behalf of Troy Davis, who was executed in Georgia despite appeals that raised questions about his guilt”. The fact that the government wouldn’t further investigate an issue before sentencing someone to the death penalty is absurd. This is why if the death penalty didn’t exist then there would be no way to just kill someone who could have been free. It isn’t fair that innocent people are being sentenced death. This causes anger and disappointment in a family and especially hatred toward the criminal justice system. Also when choosing the death penalty for a person you must consider whether a human even has a right to take away another human’s life. Consider the line “Ultimately, the moral question surrounding capital punishment in America has less to do with whether those convicted of violent crime deserve to die than with whether state and federal governments deserve to kill those whom it has imprisoned”.(Procon.org) Most people aren’t very fond of taking another human’s life away. Many religions forbid taking away human life so the death penalty can just be seen as morally wrong. The death penalty is a touchy and stressful subject to speak about and to sentence so it should just be removed from the criminal system.

Homeschooling

When it comes to homeschooling it is often believed that parents will not be able to teach core subjects, home-schooled children basically are living a free for all, and that homeschooling will damage you financially.

When you go to school you learn the four core subjects. Those subjects being Math,Science,History, and English. When most people think of homeschooling they believe that children being home-schooled aren't being taught these subjects. Whether that is true or not you must realize that you can learn in different ways. In the article titled Homeschooling by Mark Hegenerit reads "But homeschooling families have learned the school model was developed to process large numbers of children..... not to the one-on-one teaching and learning that can happen in the home." Although the child may not be learning the subjects society thinks are important the child are able to learn what they are interested in. Furthermore this means that the child will have a richer education than those is schools. Assuming this states that the children aren't learning what they "need" learn. That also means that if the child isn't learning what they should learn that means that the parents aren't "worthy" teachers and should not attempt to teach their child.

Aside from whether home schooled children are learning core subjects it is assumed that they are also having a free for all. In the article Living Room School: The Real Deal on Homeschooling by Fiona Moon Pearl a line reads "You're so lucky! I'll bet you sleep as late as you want and just do whatever you want all day." This cannot be true because home schooled children must have an education too or else they wouldn't be being home schooled in the first place. Home schooled children still take test and quizzes based on what they are learning. In a way home schooled children are no different than regular students. Even if it's a subject that the individual prefers, they still are responsible for learning effectively. Upon hearing this accusation the parents must feel as if their children aren't get as great as an education as kids in regular schools. It also implies that since the child is having a so-called free for all that they really aren't learning anything at all.

Lastly most people seem to believe that homeschooling isn't very great for saving money. "For married parents, one partner often foregoes full-time employment out of the home in order to home school"(Isabel Shaw) reads an article titled The Pros and Cons of Homeschooling. This could be totally untrue for many reasons. Between class dues, school trips, lunch money, and fundraisers for a regular school much of money is drained anyway. If your child is home schooled all your money is going to things that the actually need or things the parent actually needs. Even if it is true that homeschooling drains your money you will still be able to spend more time with family if one is home schooled. Either way you look at it homeschooling would probably be the best for your pockets if you are considering it. As for the implications for both the parents and the children it basically suggests for both that no matters how hard your efforts are homeschooling will never succeed.

Since most people feel that homeschooling leads to improper education, free time instead of learning, and a deep hole in one's pocket most people will not choose homeschooling. What they do not realize is that these assumptions effect both the children and the parents and insults both beings as a whole. Be sure to closely examine key points before completely turning down the idea.

Drug Tests

Recently there have been thoughts about drug testing people who receive welfare. In the article "States Adding Drug Test as Hurdle for Welfare"A. G. Sulzberger discusses the many views on drug testing welfare recipients. In my opinion drug testing welfare recipients is completely logical. You can choose to believe whatever you want when it comes to drugs and people who receive welfare. Whether you believe this or not, it still makes perfect sense to test anyone who receives welfare just to be safe. Just as discussed in the article I do believe that it is highly unlikely that people on welfare are doing drugs. Of course they don't receive much money as it is so why would they even think to do drugs. This statement makes a valid point but so does the statement if you can make ends meet you can find a way to get a fix. If people really are not doing drugs and receiving welfare it will still be okay. The article speaks about a 40 dollar fee for your drug test and being refunded that money if you pass. If this is really the case then you should be okay with finding the forty dollars to only be refunded it. However if you are using drugs then you shouldn't be on welfare at all. You can pay for drugs but you aren't capable of pay for food and a home. That in itself is ridiculous. The drug tests will allow for people who shouldn't be on welfare to be singled out. One article reads "Thirty-two applicants failed the test and more than 7,000 have passed, according to the Department of Children and Families"(Associated Press), when considering this text you'll realize that most people aren't on drugs. After noticing this you can understand why people can get over the fact of drug testing because they know they will able to pass. We as citizens should also be for this decision so we aren't paying tax dollars for some druggies. Testing welfare recipients should be mandatory because it could down on tax payers money being wasted and getting people out of the welfare system.

Off-shore Drilling

In the article Us to Open Areas to Offshore Drilling by John M Broder the topic of oil drilling offshore is heavily debated. Environmentalists couldn't be more against this plan while the oil industries are jumping the gun to make this happen. When choosing the offshore drilling there are many factors that need to be thoroughly considered in order to make that decision. You should evaluate the oil spill of 2010, the costs to open up these sites, and whether or not this action is beneficial to the United states. First really realize the prior accident of offshore drilling.
In the oil spill of 2010 things were horrific.Oil was everywhere and even the animals were being harmed. Obviously something had gone with the procedure of storing this oil and things got bad really quickly. When you analyze this situation you begin to realize that maybe offshore drilling is actually quite bad. At the same time you must realize that in the article itself it does say that there will be no such thing as no risk oil drilling. Accidents can and do happen just as displayed in the oil spill of 2010. With this being stated you as the reader should realize that no matter what happens oil spills are happening all around the world so the US isn't going to be alone. Rather than not going along with it you should accept the fact that there will be this kind of danger everywhere. Once you begin to except that oil spills are apart of life then you'll wonder about costs of opening up a drilling site.
Now that you are wondering about the costs you may be thinking how high or how low. Although the prices of offshore drilling is not specified we all expect it to be a pretty penny. Though it may be a chunk of change it will be worth it in the long run. Just think of the United States being self-sufficient. We wouldn't have to pay as much for the gas to fill our tanks. We also wouldn't have to worry about importing as much oil as we do now. If we start opening up offshore drilling sites we can create more jobs in this poor economy. The economy would benefit from this and so would we. Next is the most important factor of all being whether offshore drilling is really beneficial.
Oil drilling is absolutely beneficial given most of the examples above. Especially for the fact that we as Americans need to be more dependent on ourselves for oil. In the Pros/Cons of Offshore Oil Drilling wrtiten by a blogger named Mark Hutcherson who writes about daily news says "the United States needs to produce more of our own crude oil, so we are not so dependent on foreign imports".(Hutcherson) This statement in fact is so true. I could guarantee that if you asked many Americans where you could produce oil from in the United States they wouldn't even know where to answer. Then they would probably say someone where in the Middle East and ignore the state question. In realizing this you see that oil drilling is really beneficial. Especially if it will help lower gas prices because we desperately need that in the United States.

Will Dropouts Save America

According to this article the dropouts of America are carrying us to greatness. Because most of the people who created much of what we use is now were dropouts; he believes that college isn't as important than everyone makes it out to be. Day in day out entrepreneurs start businesses without and without college degrees. With that being said I do believe that college degrees are very important. College degrees help you expand in life so many different ways. In which case this Ellsberg should not be encouraging people to not go to college.

Ellsberg mentions how all these famous people without degrees have done so much. Of course I realize that yes they have done a lot for us. Many people are out fighting out Macs and the same amount of people are at home using Microsoft pcs. What people don't get is that none of this stuff is really important. The people with degrees are doctors and lawyers, people we actually need. Of course these people also use what the college dropouts make but the difference is we actually need these people. We don't need Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. We need a doctor or a fire fighter to save the children in America when we are in need. Ellsberg also pointed out the fees it costs to go to college. These college dropouts wasted money when they dropped out. They are the reason we are in such a bad economy now. They should have stayed in school and payed off their debts. Now the parents are out money and so is the government. The dropouts don't really benefit anyone. All they do is make things we love to use while they make money. On the other hand people who do go to college are highly successful. Consider the line “companies started by college graduates were twice as successful in sales and employment compared to companies started by dropouts or who didn’t enroll in college". (Shane) So in the long run when you go to college and then start your own you will be able to earn more than the people who didn't go. Sure may not have such an exciting job but you'll be doing what you love and making more profit than the next amateur who didn't go to college.

Pokerface

Lady Gaga. Gaga. Stephanie. Stephanie Germanotta. The girl who was seen on boiling points. The multimillion dollar pop star that comes up with new music every day. An advocate for the LGBT community. Whoever you know her as; the point is you probably know her. What I don't get is what all this hype is about is? I mean she's basically just a cheap imitation of Madonna. I mean sure she's supposed to stand for all these good things but lack of better words she's just a hussy in a meat suit.

Everyone these days just loves Lady Gaga. Everyone thinks that her music is fantastic. Most people think she is just this great person because of the fact that she supports all sexual orientations. When in all reality Lady Gaga's music pretty horrible. Her music is repetitive and basically talks about nothing. She talks about pretty pointless things. She's just a poor excuse for a music artist. She's not really that great of a singer and in reality she's a rude sour woman. She has been caught badmouthing Adele in an interview. She's said to have been rude to her fans. Lady Gaga is not really worth all the hype she's been given. Everyone likes her because she's supposedly "different". When really she's trying so hard not to fit in that she isn't different at all. She shows up in all these inventive outfits. Her hairdos are supposed to be these complicated things. If you really look at her all of her outfits are trash and her hairdos are all beehives. Lady Gaga isn't really a celebrity. She's just a confused hussy that happened to get famous.

Polygamy

Recently the TV show Sister Wives has come and many people have had different views on it. If you aren't familiar with the show then I'll brief you on it. The show is about a man who chooses to live the polygamist lifestyle. He has a total of four wives with 16 children. They used to live in a house together but have recently broken in to 4 different houses. The husband is responsible for moving to house to house in order to see each of the wives and their kids. The biggest issue with this show is obviously that both the husband and the wives have chosen to live a polygamist lifestyle. Polygamy meaning having multiple life partners.

Of course the majority of people are saying that this is wrong. They often say that the Bible doesn't allow for this type of love. There are many excuses as to why people think this is wrong. Notice the word excuses because they purely are excuses. People are allowed to do whatever they want and when they want so long as they aren't hurting anyone. This means that the sister wives and their husband along with any other polygamists should be ignored and be allowed to do what they want. I believe that everyone has a right to choice. Choice including any and everything that you chose to do with "your" life. If this polygamy is legal then obviously it isn't a problem. If it wasn't legal then it still isn't a problem. The people reciting Bible verses need to sit down reread the Bible because it doesn't teach you to be rude and judgmental.
